Strengthen the container for your team's equity work
Have your team's equity conversations felt forced or awkward? Do you suspect there are issues bubbling under the surface but you're not sure what they are? Do you feel like members of your team are holding back on what's really happening? If so, you might have a container problem.
Many organizations approach equity work as a technical problem. First they attempt to train their staff in how White Supremacy operates; then, they seek to identify the ways it operates internally; and then, they try to make changes that align with an equity lens. The problem with this approach is that it neglects the very real psychological, social and emotional dimensions of equity work.
